“But Why?”
// October 9th, 2009 // Lyrics and Details
Opening track to the Eternal Life Music album, intended to get the mental juices flowing by throwing out some potentially thought provoking questions from ‘jump street.’ “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD….” Isaiah 1:18.
Lyrics:
Verse 1: Why some people get on the train, sit and cus up a storm – but sharing Gospel on the train is outside of the norm? – And if I do it some look at me like I got two heads – I guess it’s cause i’m speaking life to the spiritually dead (4) a foreign language. How come I can see what they need – but they don’t see that they’re infected with a deadly disease? – They’re looking at the wrong standard, this world is corrupt – and they don’t understand it’s all gonna be burnt up (8) why is it like that? Why would you rather be in the dark? – Why not let the great physician operate on your heart? – If you don’t see a heart problem why go under the knife? – And shouldn’t Christians know it’s why we need to be God’s light? (12) Take John the Baptist; he made a way for Christ to come in – notifying the Jewish people they were guilty of sin – and directing them to Christ come to take it away – Why is the message that we’re preaching ever different today?
Hook: Why is it like that? Satan don’t want you to think – I got some questions (I got some questions), Because I want you to think – and let us reason. Maybe you startin’ to think – Why is it like that? (Why?) Why is it like that? (Why?) (Background: Why is it so?)
Verse 2: Why does street evangelism, and televangelism – seem to be so much different? I don’t get it – like money is the gospel turn the channel from him – find another supposed preacher never mentioning sin (4) It’s all feel good, and what can Jesus do for men – The Kanye West’s of the world say He’s walking for them – But when Joshua asked Him hey are you for them or for us, – He responded by saying “Nay” then He straightened him up (8) He said listen, take off your shoes, ’cause the ground here is holy – Joshua started worshiping. He worshipped God only – You worship Him with your life y’all, that’s what the Lord told me – If I ain’t worshipping God, why I’m acting like He know me? (12) when it’s all about the money Christ is not the only focus – the message is great swelling words and hocus pocus – where they talk a whole lot, read the bible just a little – people tolerate it seemingly just wanting ears tickled (16) Why’s it like that?
Why many Christian rappers put a price tag on their work? – You gotta promise certain dollars ‘fore they come to your church – and then they label it a ministry but how can it be – when the disciples in the bible would’ve done it for free? (4) Clarification, I aint talkin takin’ donations – i’m talkin’ when the service contingent on people payin’ (what?) - if it really is a ministry then do it in love – acknowledge Christ paid the price wit His life and His blood (8) Paul said he’d rather spend and be spent for you – what a coincidence, Jesus is the same way too – So here’s the question on my heart for the elder and youth – Why is it such a controversy if I’m speakin’ the truth? (12) are we simply Christian businessmen merchandising the gospel? – and is it what we learned from the Word and Apostles? – are we trying to seem spiritual but really we’re not so? – I’m just asking the question I aint tryin’ to be hostile (16) But why?
